A lot of us wonder why some people are able to eat a high calorie diet all day and not put on weight, while others just have to dream of chocolate muffins and will wake up 5 pounds heavier. It all boils down to your metabolism. So today lets get the Greenology on how to SPEED UP, BOOST UP our metabolism, and EAT our way slimmer, while making sure our metabolism is working for our body and not against it.
We all burn energy at different rates. This explains why two people may consume the same food, but one person gains weight and the other doesn't. Story of my life: my husband Roosevelt and my daughter Roesha eat like that all year around and never gain 1 pound. But me, all I have to do is indulge in a piece of chocolate cake and will regret it right after because I have to spend 90 minutes in the gym to burn the calories.
This explains why someone like me with a slower metabolism finds it harder to lose weight. Foods like chocolate, bread, butter and junk food can really add to my waistline, while my husband and daughter have a super fast metabolism and are able to get away with eating anything. With this said, there’s a number of things we can do to fuel up our metabolism.
Kick up your metabolism with Pilates
They are several advantages of doing pilates, it will increase your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), stimulate blood flow and oxygen circulation, while eliminating toxins and waste out of the body. Other advantages are the building and maintenance of lean muscle mass, realigning body posture for better body movement control, increased strength, and enhancement of energy level.
Eat your way Slimmer by having a Nutritious meal plan
The quality of food you eat is important. Fat is easy to process and has little thermic effect, while protein is hard to process and has a larger thermic effect. Your body works harder to break down the fibers and complex carbohydrates in whole grains and vegetables than it does to break down refines flours or simple carbs such as sugar. You also need 5 litres of water and vitamins such as B2, B3, B5, B6 and vitamin C. Also, stop eating after 8pm. If you must eat late, go for lean proteins and veggies, and make sure your carbohydrates are not complex. Eat smaller meals throughout the day instead of a few, big servings. This stops your body from going into starvation mode, limits overeating, and boosts your metabolism and your brain power.
Just an FYI: Eat Breakfast!
Skipping that bowl of oatmeal might sound harmless, but you’re missing the first opportunity of the day to jumpstart your metabolism
